A new police chief has been named for a crime-troubled territory, months after the sacking of his predecessor over a jobs-for-mates scandal.
Martin Dole, who has been the Northern Territory's acting commissioner since March, will be sworn in at the end of October.
Mr Dole has been endorsed for a four-year-term with the recommendation going to NT Administrator Hugh Heggie for approval, Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said in Alice Springs on Thursday.
She said Mr Dole brought exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the challenges and commitment required to reduce crime across the territory.
"I am confident Commissioner Dole will take the force forward in the interests of the community and our hardworking front line," she said in a statement.
