COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Planning Commission has voted to delay a decision on whether to approve a proposed subdivision near Burnside Elementary School.
In a 4-3 vote, the commission opted to defer preliminary approval of the Cassetta Pines development, a proposed 243-home neighborhood planned for more than 60 acres along Patterson Road.
One of the main reasons for the delay was the developer’s lack of prior engagement with nearby residents. During the meeting it was discussed how Great Southern Homes Inc., the company behind the project, did not begin reaching out to the community until this week.
“I always find it concerning when we make any type of decision when the community hasn’t had any input leading up to it,” said Planning Commission board member Carlos Osorio.
