JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The “coming soon” banner outside the former Metairie Towers Condominium building in Jefferson Parish is a promise back on hold.

“You never want to see a property sitting vacant and it has been now for several years. So, that’s not good,” said Jefferson Parish Division A Councilwoman At-large Jennifer Van Vrancken.

A recent online auction failed to draw in a buyer, leaving the fate of the building unknown.

“The deal is in flux at the moment, post auction, which did not meet the reserve price. We are in talks with various parties on how best to proceed,” said the property’s owner Darren Aschaffenburg.

It’s been more than four years since anyone lived in the 219-unit Metairie Road building. The mid-rise has been empty since Hurricane Ida tore off its roof.
