DULUTH — When Duluth Denfeld senior Sam Eklund broke through with a goal in the Section 7AA semifinal against North Branch Thursday at Walt Hunting Stadium, the outcome wasn’t really in doubt.

The Hunters were up 4-1 in an eventual 5-2 win but Eklund’s been a little “snakebit” this season when it came to scoring goals, according to coach Scott Anderson.

“He got that off his back tonight,” Anderson said. “He never gave up hustling and never gives up shooting — good stuff by him.”

Eklund — who does have seven goals and four assists this season — isn’t “worrying about individual stats” this season, he said.

“It’s more about playing as a team, doing what it takes to help out,” Eklund said. “When we’re playing our game — when we’re playing for each other — I think we can beat anyone.”
