A good trade, like justice, not only needs to be good, it needs to be seen to be good.

Finding a deal to please the list manager is one thing – finding one to mollify the members is another.

This is more acutely so when the player involved is someone fans can’t comprehend the club allowing to leave. See Charlie Curnow and Christian Petracca.

It’s doubly so when the player is the captain of a club and its only elite player – Zach Merrett.

In the courts, a jury that is too quick to reach a verdict leaves itself more open to appeal for the query of whether they’d taken sufficient time to truly weigh the evidence.
