During a regular inspection in Yavapai County, Arizona, a utility worker had an unexpected scare when he almost stepped into a hidden pit. Just moments later, unusual cries coming from the sinkhole made him stop in his tracks.

Curious and concerned, he looked closer and was stunned by what he saw. At the bottom of the 10-foot drop sat a small, terrified dog. The poor pup was trapped with no way to climb out, shaking from fear and exhaustion.

The worker quickly reassured the little dog that help was on the way before calling Yavapai County Sheriff’s Animal Control to report what he had found.

A Heartfelt Rescue

Animal Control Officer Alex Quinonez responded right away and drove to the scene. The utility worker stayed near the hole, talking softly to the frightened dog to keep him calm
