OZARK, Mo. (KY3) - Ozark police are asking local businesses and homeowners to voluntarily register their security cameras to help officers solve crimes more efficiently.

The department announced the initiative on Facebook this week, emphasizing that participation would help create a safer community while streamlining investigations.

“This program’s about increasing efficiency and then also giving our businesses and citizens an opportunity to help us make the community a safer place,” Lieutenant Matt Jones said.

Under the voluntary registry, property owners with security cameras can sign up to let police know cameras exist on their premises. When crimes occur in registered areas, officers can directly contact camera owners to request footage rather than conducting door-to-door canvassing
