Srinagar- The Supreme Court has granted four weeks time to the Union government to file its response on pleas seeking appropriate directions to the Union of India for restoration of the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir in a time-bound manner.
After recording submissions from the petitioners and the Centre, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai dictated the order, granting four weeks time to the Centre to respond to statehood demand.
The Chief Justice, while citing Pahalgam terror attack, said that the decision of statehood restoration is to be taken after taking all factors into consideration.
While upholding the abrogation of Article 370, the top court had earlier ordered, “Restoration of statehood shall take place at the earliest and as soon as possible”.
