New Delhi, Oct 10: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking an inquiry and systemic reforms in drug safety following deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, allegedly caused by toxic cough syrups.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and K. Vinod Chandran rejected the plea filed by lawyer Vishal Tiwari after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta objected, noting that the petitioner often files court cases based on news reports.
Initially, the bench considered issuing notice, but later dismissed the petition, with the CJI stating simply: “Dismissed.” Mehta highlighted that the seriousness with which states like Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh are addressing such incidents cannot be undermined and emphasized that proper law enforcement mechani
