Despite requirements outlining that organizations using Wilmington-owned fields must have security at sporting events, city officials have confirmed to Delaware Online/The News Journal there were none at Eden Park the afternoon a man was fatally shot during a Sept. 21 youth football game.

There's also no record of the organization, the New Castle County Jaguars, having reached out to police in recent years about security at its previous sporting events as required by Wilmington. According to the city's ball field reservations website, if an organization cannot provide proof of police coverage, they will not be permitted on the field for that event.
