What do whiskey and wine have to do with World War II? Plenty, according to a historical group raising money to add new features to the Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial in Royal Oak.

A tasting tour of major events of the war and the spirits tied to them will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Kilgour Scottish Centre, 2363 Rochester Road in Troy.

One war vignette that the event will explore involves British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s affection for Johnnie Walker Red whiskey, said Russell Levine, a board member for the memorial.

Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Churchill and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt held a series of meetings in Washington, known as the Arcadia Conference.
