NEW DELHI: The National Capital Region (NCR) states on Friday requested the Supreme Court to allow the bursting of green firecrackers in Delhi and surrounding areas during Diwali . Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, representing the NCR states, told a bench of Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran that green firecrackers could be permitted between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali. "We have made suggestions," Mehta told the bench, adding that the states had proposed a balanced approach for the court to consider. He said the use of firecrackers could be allowed in the NCR under certain conditions, including that only green crackers approved by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) be manufactured and sold.
