South Florida Bulls quarterback Byrum Brown (17) reacts after scoring a touchdown against the Boise State Broncos in the second quarter at Raymond James Stadium.

One of the biggest games of the season, with implications around the Group of Five and a potential College Football Playoff bid, is set for this Friday night and will be getting all of the prime-time attention it deserves.

The USF Bulls (4-1, 1-0 American), an early-season G5 darling, are hitting the road and heading to Denton, Texas, for a matchup with the North Texas Mean Green (5-0, 1-0 American). This game will carry American Conference title game implications and could be a turning point for one of these teams, emerging as a playoff contender.

USF vs. North Texas prediction, pick:

North Texas can score. And they can score a lot. The Mean Green average 44.8 points per game. They are explosive and can hurt you both ways. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker has been elite, throwing for 1,247 yards and 11 touchdowns on the year without an interception. On the ground, Makenzie McGill II and Caleb Hawkins each have over 300 yards already.

Their issue? USF can score just as well. The Bulls have hung up 117 points in their last two games. Their quarterback, Byrum Brown, can do it both ways. He has 1,194 passing yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 282 rushing yards and three more scores.

So, with both offenses bringing firepower, it's the USF defense that separates this game. Aside from playing Miami, arguably the best team in America right now, the Bulls are holding to less than 16 points per game. They won't shut down the North Texas offense, but the Bulls are a bit more battle-tested and get the one stop they need late to steal a massive road win.

Prediction: USF 37, North Texas 35
