Beau Matulewski has had the nickname for as long as he can remember.

It started in the backyard, when his father would get down on his knees and tell his 3-year-old son to charge at him as fast as he could.

“Run at me hard,” the father would tell the son. “Use your shoulder.”

And when the son did what the father said ...

“Ah, that’s not hard enough,” the father would say.

Then came the question: “Where’s my beast?”

From there, a nickname was born.

Forever known as “The Beast,” the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Matulewski quickly became known for his fearlessness on the football field as he grew into being a four-year starter on the Jesuit defense.
