Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif has asserted that despite Pakistan making huge sacrifices for Afghanistan, Kabul has always stood waith India, underscoring Islamabad's unease over the growing proximity between New Delhi and Kabul.

"Afghans have historically been loyal to India - yesterday, today, and tomorrow," Asif said in an interview.

Criticising his country's previous governments, Asif said Pakistan’s decision to provide asylum to millions of Afghan refugees was taken under pressure from the United States. “We made huge sacrifices for Afghanistan, yet they never stood by us,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s generosity had not translated into goodwill.
