Following a fatal crash on the northbound span of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway a week ago, Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou sent an email to commuters urging them to be keep their eyes on the road ahead as they cross the bridge.

A three-vehicle crash near the St. Tammany Parish end of the bridge prompted authorities to close the northbound span for more than an hour at around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.

Dufrechou said a passenger in an SUV involved in that crash died of his injuries.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as Claude Dixon III, 60.

Dufrechou said the crash remains under investigation, but that the SUV Dixon was in had been hit from behind as traffic on the span slowed.
