This week's game between Central and Woodlawn will be for more than getting a leg up in the district standings with a new rivalry announced between the two schools.
Central mayor Wade Evans and St. George mayor Dustin Yates discussed the rivalry at Dearman's Diner on Thursday. Evans dubbed the game, "The Battle of the Sliver," noting the sliver of land that connects Central and St. George.
"Each year, the winner will take ownership of that little strip of land between the cities on the Amite River," Evans said.
Evans said the great thing about getting to start the rivalry is that it enforces the municipalities within East Baton Rouge Parish.
Yates, a former teacher and football coach at Woodlawn, couldn't be more happy to be in a position to start the rivalry.
