GREENVILLE — Actress, Academy Award nominee, alumna of a Greenville high school and now the creator of a new contest to connect young artists with the tradition of Black American storytelling on stage. On Oct. 8, Danielle Brooks announced her latest project: the Century Cycle Continues Monologue Competition .

Brooks, who attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, has partnered with the school — with additional support from Black Women on Broadway — to launch an annual competition for high school students in the Palmetto State .
