Here's a new type of marvel team-up: Actors Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland have an off-camera collaboration for their respective coffee and non-alcoholic beer brands.

Of course, the duo have teamed up before as Iron Man and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Avengers movies. If they face off in future Marvel movies, it will likely be as enemies with Downey playing the villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2026.

Downey gives Holland the credit for the collaboration of their brands – Downey's happy Coffee and Holland's BERO non-alcoholic beer – and two new limited-edition beverages: happy Eternal Hoptimist ground coffee, roasted to exude ale-like pine and citrus notes, and BERO Coffee Draught, a coffee-flavored stout weighing in at less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. Both are now available at Target stores and Target.com, as well as on the happy Coffee and Bero websites, the companies announced.

Tom Holland: Non-alcoholic beer and coffee taste 'delicious'

An avid coffee drinker whose non-alcoholic beer line launched nearly one year ago, Holland and the BERO team were talking about "new flavors and new styles" a few months ago and he recalled "back when I was drinking, one of my favorite drinks was a pint of Guinness," Holland said during a recent video chat with Downey and USA TODAY. (Long before founding BERO, Holland spoke out about his journey to sobriety, which began in 2022.)

Later, at home, Holland poured a BERO and "put a shot of Robert's coffee in there and it just was out of this world, delicious," Holland said. "I think the coffee just brings that really nice nutty aroma."

Just as on-screen, the two actors have a quick rapport. When Downey joins he first wants to know how Holland is feeling after suffering a mild concussion on the set of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which is slated for release on July 31, 2026.

Holland, who has logged in from a London hotel, tells Downey he's been back on the film set for several days and is doing fine.

"The movie's going really well. The director (Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") is fantastic," he told USA TODAY earlier. "We have some really exciting new cast members who are bringing new characters to life, which is really cool."

As for their two brands, each works because it makes sense for them, says Downey, who founded happy Coffee with entrepreneur Craig Dubitsky in January 2024. "Tom is kind of strangely a natural business guy," he said, adding that Holland's "acumen is pretty strong" and that he set up his company "really well."

"I think it was organic," Downey told Holland. "So it's very authentic to who you are, as I believe happy (Coffee) was with me."

The collaboration also targets "a whole generation, (Holland's) generation (that is) saying the alcohol thing is maybe a little overrated," Downey said.

With fewer U.S. adults saying they consume alcohol in a recent Gallup survey – it found a record low of 54% – BERO is "kind of like providing a service for this emerging market," Downey said.

Charitable pours: Downey's happy Coffee and Holland's BERO

Mental health has been a major cause for Downey, who discussed his journey to sobriety on "Oprah" in 2004. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is an equity partner in happy Coffee, Downey says. And happy Coffee products – from whole bean coffee to ready-to-drink canned coffee drinks – have a QR code that will connect consumers with the NAMI HelpLine.

Holland's venture has a philanthropic aspect, too, with some proceeds benefitting The Brothers Trust, a fundraising vehicle established in 2017 by his family including parents Nikki and Dominic Holland, and his three brothers. One of the projects it supports, Story Book Dads, makes CD and DVD recordings of incarcerated fathers reading bedtime stories, which are given to their children. "It helps them maintain a relationship with their kids on the outside," Holland said.

About the collaboration with Downey, Holland said, "It's just incredibly rewarding, beyond partnering up with a pal who I respect and admire and also am incredibly grateful to for the way the last 10 years of my career has panned out … that we got to do yet another really cool thing together."

To that, Downey responded, "You know, this is so weird. This just occurred to me. If you hadn't seen 10 years of someone operating like a clean machine to inspire you, we might not even be on the Zoom today. Matter of fact, I should be an equity partner in BERO, but we'll sidebar about that."
