A familiar voice on air and a thoughtful presence in print, he moved with ease between the worlds of art, performance, and public discourse.

Fluent in both Urdu and Kashmiri, Mukhtar bridged linguistic and cultural divides with a natural grace that few could match.

Whether reciting a poem, shaping a radio script, performing on stage, or editing copy in the quiet of his newsroom, he brought to each pursuit the same clarity of thought and warmth of spirit.

His work carried the cadence of Kashmir — its beauty, its resilience, and its silences.

On Thursday, at his home in Anantnag, that many-sided voice fell silent. He was 69.
