As North Carolina prepares to face Cal next Friday, Bill Belichick won’t have his cornerbacks coach.
Armond Hawkins has been suspended, the school confirmed in a statement on Thursday night. The Tar Heels assistant had come to North Carolina after working with Belichick’s son, Steve, at Washington.
“North Carolina assistant football coach Armond Hawkins has been suspended for violating NCAA rules related to extra benefits,” UNC’s statement read. “He will remain on leave as the Department of Athletics further investigates other potential actions detrimental to the team and University.”
According to The Athletic, the suspension is rooted in field passes.
