A jazz musician who has lived nearly all of his life in Vancouver has earned an important award from just south of the Columbia River.
Gary Hobbs , a Vancouver native and celebrated jazz drummer, will be inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 11 at Portland’s Aladdin Theater. Hobbs will be one of several inductees for 2025.
Hobbs grew up in a musical family. He’s the grandson and son of Vancouver drummers and jazz bandleaders.
He put in a musical apprenticeship with the Stan Kenton Big Band of the late 1970s.
Since then he has played with many jazz and other musical luminaries — from Randy Brecker and Anita O’Day to Kurt Elling and Terry Robb — and still performs and teaches regularly in the Pacific Northwest. Tags Clark County Clark County performing arts Li
