Considerable rain expected in the region today and Saturday poses threats of flooding and debris flows but also should help reduce some of this year’s precipitation deficit heading into winter.
A surge of moisture coming up from southern Mexico thanks to Tropical Storm Priscilla began arriving locally on Thursday. Meteorologist Kris Sanders with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction said Thursday that rainfall was expected to pick up Thursday night, with rain coming and going today and peaking tonight and into Saturday, when there will be another day of intermittent rain.
Altogether, Grand Junction could get a half-inch to inch-and-a-half of rain. Sanders said he thinks local precipitation so far this year is about 3.5 inches below normal, so the storm could reduce that deficit
