At first glance, construction activity in Prince Edward County (PEC) appears to have been much lower in September compared to the year before, however, one project makes most of the difference. The county’s Building Department issued 50 permits with a construction value of $10.1 million last month. Sixty-five permits were issued in September of 2024, valued at a whopping $165 million. However, one permit was worth $140 million as construction began on the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. Looking at last month’s numbers, the county reports the number of new homes, including secondary suites, was 15. Year-to-date construction is actually slightly ahead of 2024 when the new hospital is taken out of the equation. PEC granted 448 permits worth $88.9 million through the end
