A North Smithfield man was killed in a construction accident on Thursday morning, according to the Burrillville Police Department.

Robert Leech, 64, died at the hospital of injuries sustained when he fell through a basement stairway opening on Oct. 9 at a construction site on Sherman Farm Road in the Harrisville section of Burrillville, according to a news release.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the accident.

What happened at the construction site?

According to the news release, Burrillville Police and Harrisville Fire Department personnel arrived at 1249 Sherman Farm Road and found Leech on the basement floor, unresponsive.
