Few artists have logged the kind of first decade Elvis Costello did at the start of his career — 11 studio albums between 1977-86, most greeted with near universal acclaim for their stylistic diversity as well as the craft, wit and fearless bite of his songs.

It’s an era worth celebrating, which the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and his band the Imposters — featuring two musicians who played with him during that time as part of the Attractions, and since — did Thursday night, Oct. 9, at the Royal Oak Music Theatre as part of his Radio Soul! The Early Songs of Elvis Costello tour.

Celebrating that period of work certainly looks good on paper, and on Thursday it lived up to that promise as both a trip down memory lane and a testament to the enduring relevance of the more than two dozen songs
