New Delhi: India stamped their authority over the West Indies on a dominating Day 1 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The home side made the most of batting-friendly conditions and Shubman Gill’s decision to bat after winning his first toss as India captain.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his seventh century and remained not out on 173 to take India to 318 for 2 in 90 overs. Gill was the other unbeaten batter on the crease, batting on 20 as West Indies toiled hard on a punishing day for the bowlers.

The first day of the second Test was headlined by a special knock by Jaiswal, who started cautiously in the morning session, but shifted gears in the post-lunch session, completing the milestone in just 145 balls.
