A “significant” water-main break in Hellertown has led to a boil-water advisory announced Thursday night for borough properties, a water authority official said.

It appears a plug in a 14-inch water line located within the Steel Club golf course failed, said David L. Busch, interim executive director of the Hellertown Borough Authority .

The advisory was sent to all of the authority’s water system customers via its emergency phone system, Busch said.

The advisory told customers that due to the loss of positive pressure in portions of the system and in an effort to ensure the highest level of safety, the authority was advising all customers of the water system to boil water prior to consuming, using it for cooking, drinking or brushing of teeth.
