Louis Tomlinson is speaking candidly about his reaction to Zayn Malik unexpectedly leaving One Direction.

In March 2015, Malik surprised Directioners by announcing that he would exit the band after five years. The group went on to release their fifth and final album, “Made in the A.M.,” later that year before the boy band’s indefinite hiatus began.

More than a decade later, Tomlinson opened up about why he was so hurt that Malik walked away from the group during an appearance on “ The Diary Of A CEO” podcast.

While speaking to host Steven Bartlett in the nearly two-hour interview, Tomlinson recalled his emotional response the moment he learned about Malik’s decision.
