LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Jefferson County has a new interim sheriff.

On Friday, Deputy Mayor David James was sworn as is the first Black sheriff in county history.

Mayor Craig Greenberg appointed James as interim sheriff following the death of John Aubrey , who served in the roll for 27 years.

James has formerly worked as a police officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department, the director of the Kentucky Bureau of Investigations, and Louisville Metro Council President.
