A 'dangerous' thug who stabbed a woman while she was on the phone to police has been locked up.

Olegs Arklins left his victim with such serious injuries she needed life-saving surgery in hospital.

Police rushed to the scene, finding Arklins sitting on a pavement outside while the victim lay hurt inside her home.

The 45-year-old later insisted to police he had not intended to kill her.

Following a trial at Leicester Crown Court, Arklins was convicted of attempted murder.

The defendant, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 27 years on Friday, October 3.
