BROADVIEW — Protesters gathered Friday outside the Broadview ICE facility, as they have for weeks in resistance to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations.

Past protests there have turned violent as federal agents have repeatedly shot rubber bullets at, tear-gassed and attacked peaceful protesters. Some feared this week’s would be worse as the Trump administration has deployed the National Guard, saying the troops were needed to “protect” ICE agents and the facility. But a series of court orders this week have directed agents to stop attacking journalists and peaceful protesters and to hold off on using the National Guard.
