INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man's "secret" with a young child led to him staring down a potential 40+ year sentence in prison.

Dewitt Hemphill Sr. was found guilty this week of three counts of child molesting as a Level 1 felony, two counts of child molesting as a Level 4 felony and one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors as a Level 6 felony.

Hemphill's guilty verdicts were handed down after a two-day jury trial.

According to court documents, Hemphill's abuse ranged for more than a year, beginning back in July 2014.

One of Hemphill's victims was under the age of 10 at the time of the sexual abuse, documents detail. The victim told Hemphill that what he was doing was wrong, with Hemphill allegedly responding, "I know."

But Hemphill said it was their "secret."
