SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Friday marked day ten of a government shutdown and federal workers in western Massachusetts are experiencing the effects. That means that troops, FAA workers, even postal service employees are all not getting their paychecks.

Nearly 45,000 of those federal workers are based in the Bay State and U.S. Senator Ed Markey detailed how medical institutions and patients are struggling the most in our community. “We’re hearing medical institutions are very concerned about the potential Medicaid and Medicare cuts in terms of the impact they have on their emergency room, on their preventative health programs, their behavioral health programs, and the protection they can provide for the health of people who live in western Massachusetts,” he explained.
