An unknown substance has been found on sterile surgical tools at a Scots hospital as procedures into their hundreds have been axed amid a decontamination unit remaining closed.
NHS Grampian noted that an unknown substance had been found on instruments last week after they had been processed at the Central Decontamination Unit (CDU) at the NHS Grampian Foresterhill site in Aberdeen.
As a result, there aren’t enough instruments for all operations and focus will be on emergency operations, caesarean sections and cancer care, the health board said.
It could take up to eight weeks until the unit is reopened due to a faulty compressor, reports STV News.
