An Islamic State fanatic took an undercover agent on a tour of Prestwich and Higher Broughton to pick out targets to kill as many Jewish people as possible in a gun attack, a jury has been told.
After meeting through Facebook, alleged terrorist Waalid Saadaoui met an undercover operative posing as a jihadi in Queens Park in Bolton on February 15, 2024, and handed him a £2,250 deposit for guns and ammunition, Preston Crown Court was told.
Later, on March 17, the pair met up in Prestwich and Higher Broughton when Tunisia-born Mr Saadaoui took the undercover operative on a tour of potential targets, the jury was told. The defendant had insisted the pair message each other in code and referred to guns as 'goldfinches'.
