A former RAAF pilot accused of murdering his wife and staging her death to look like a ride-on lawnmower incident will face trial before a jury.

Robert John Crawford, 47, was committed to stand trial in Brisbane ’s Supreme Court , Queensland , after a brief committal hearing in Ipswich on Thursday.

Acting Magistrate Sue Ganasan found there was sufficient evidence for Crawford to face trial on the charges of murdering his wife Frances Elizabeth Crawford and interfering with her corpse at their Upper Lockyer property in July 2024.

Crawford’s lawyer, Saul Holt, challenged the case, calling it “extraordinarily weak” and questioning whether mobile phone data, timing, and injuries could prove murder beyond doubt.
