US President Donald Trump has lashed out at China, claiming its new rare earth export controls are an attempt to "hold the World 'captive,'" and threatening to cancel a planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a strong statement shared on Truth Social, President Trump described China's move as a "sinister and hostile" effort to gain an economic monopoly, which has led him to consider imposing a "massive increase of tariffs" on Chinese goods.
"There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the world 'captive,' but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time — until now!" the President wrote, accusing Beijing of "lying in wait."
