A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for second-degree murder in the shooting of an 11-year-old at a home in Newburgh, N.Y., officials said Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday morning when Newburgh police responded to a home on North Miller Street for reports of a shooting.
Officers arrived around 8:15 a.m. and found an 11-year-old boy “who was deceased from a gunshot wound,” Newburgh police said in a news release. The boy has not been publicly identified.
During an investigation, Newburgh detectives recovered a firearm and identified three juveniles of interest, who were “quickly located by police,” Newburgh officials said.
Within 12 hours of the shooting, police arrested a 13-year-old boy on a second-degree murder charge.
The shooting allegedly happened when the boy and some
