BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- The suspect accused of stabbing a St. Gabriel Police Department officer in July has been indicted by a grand jury.

District Attorney Tony Clayton said St. Gabriel Police Department Captain Devin Boutte was found stabbed and beaten to death in his home on July 6.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said the incident began as an argument and escalated into a stabbing. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Warren Mitchell III, was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree murder.

According to Clayton, Mitchell called the police and admitted his involvement. Boutte was a 12-year veteran of the St. Gabriel Police Department.

Mitchell was officially charged wth second-degree murder and is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 19 in Ibervill
