SCRANTON, Pa. — Flames broke out at a double-block home in Scranton early Friday, leaving many people displaced.

The Scranton Fire Chief John Judge says crews were called to Jackson Street around 6 a.m. Friday for a fire at a double-block home with four apartment units.

Flames mostly damaged the back of the home where nine adults and nine children lived; all people got out safely, but are now displaced. The Red Cross is helping those families.

The Chief says the fire department installed new fire detectors through its free smoke detector program in 2023. Those detectors were working when crews responded to the fire on Friday.
