The unemployment rate in Brantford-Brant rose to 9.7 per cent in September, the second highest in Ontario behind Windsor’s rate of 10.4 per cent.

Statistics Canada’s seasonally adjusted rates were released Friday, showing the local unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points from 9.4 per cent in August.

“Brantford-Brant’s labour force continues to grow, but fewer people are finding work,” Danette Dalton, executive director of the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, said in a media release. “About 600 more people looked for work over the past month, with 200 finding employment.”

Dalton noted that 7,000 more people were working in Brantford-Brant compared to this time last year.
