One of the oldest running races on the Jersey Shore has been cancelled as the region braces for a dangerous nor’easter storm expected to bring heavy rain and high winds on Sunday.
The LBI 18 Mile Run, held on Long Beach Island since 1974, had been scheduled for Sunday morning. It also would have included a 12-kilometer race.
Organizers cited the “extreme and dangerous weather forecast” in announcing the cancellation Thursday.
“The safety of our runners, volunteers, first responders, and the community is our absolute top priority,” organizers posted to the race’s Facebook page .
