WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two people were killed Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Thomasville Road in Winston-Salem, police said.

The crash happened around 8:40 a.m. on NC 109 (Thomasville Road). Investigators determined that a 2016 Ford Escape driven by 68-year-old Darlene Schuwan Hauser crossed the center line for unknown reasons, sideswiping a northbound 2016 Toyota 4Runner before colliding head-on with a 2008 Ford Focus.

Hauser was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 55-year-old Maurice Singh, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Ford Focus, 24-year-old Diana Iris Vazquez Arroyo, was also taken to a hospital with injuries. The two people in the Ford Focus were not injured, police said.
