LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Agriculture has selected 10 schools in the state for participation in its annual tree program.
The Shade Tree on Playgrounds program aims to provide students with experience in planting and caring for trees. ADA Urban & Community Forestry Program Coordinator Kristine Kimbro said the program also provides students with an opportunity to see the role trees play in communities.
“We’re excited to see these schools create lasting benefits for both students and their playgrounds,” Kimbro said.
Officials said selected schools will receive up to five native shade trees, mulch, watering supplies, and planting guidelines. Participants must attend a virtual STOP workshop, incorporate curriculum on the importance of trees and forestry in Arkansas, hold
