WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- Walker County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Ralph Williams was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly giving false or misleading information to the state regarding a former employee.

Williams was charged with allegedly lying to Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission about one of the officers being fired back in June.

According to the indictment, Williams helped sheriff Nick Smith unlawfully appoint an applicant as a deputy sheriff, who was non-certified by the Alabama Peace Officer's Standards and Training Commission. The indictment alleges that Williams facilitated in the signing of the warrant or check for the payment of the salary of the applicated applicant, when Williams had knowledge that the appointed applicant failed to meet the qua
