SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A woman died after the 18-wheeler she was driving went up in flames during a crash in South Fulton on the interstate, according to police.
South Fulton Police and Fire responded to the crash involving the 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle on I-85 North at Flat Shoals Road around 1:30 p.m.
Early reports show that the 18-wheeler went off the road and became fully engulfed in flames, killing the driver.
Multiple lanes of the interstate were blocked, with the backup stretching for miles. Around 6 p.m., police said two lanes on I-85 North had reopened.
Motorists were encouraged to avoid the area and consider using SR 14/US 29 Northbound to prevent delays.
