MENTOR, Ohio — A Mentor High School freshman has died nearly two weeks after collapsing during a wrestling conditioning session.

Lucas McGee, 14, died Oct. 9 after suffering a medical emergency during after-school wrestling conditioning on Sept. 29, a spokesperson for the school district said.

The district learned of McGee’s death Friday morning. A moment of silence is planned to take place during the football game against Shaker Heights on Friday night.

In a letter to parents and staff Friday morning, Superintendent Craig Heath and High School Principal John Fullerman described McGee as a kind, hardworking student known for his positive spirit and dedication both in the classroom and in athletics.
