Farmageddon struck beans this week with President Trump’s Truth Social statements on Friday sending bean prices lower again.
The president warned massive new tariffs would be imposed on China in return for what he described as hostile export policies promoted by President Xi. He also stated he had no reason to meet with Xi to negotiate a trade deal.
Until this year’s tariff wars, China had been the largest buyer of U.S. beans, so U.S. bean and corn farmers are now suffering from lower prices just as costs of production, especially for fertilizer and labor, are rising.
