A South Jersey high school was evacuated on Friday after a firework was found on a student, according to the Winslow Township Police Department.

The incident unfolded at Winslow Township High School at 10 Cooper Folly Road on Oct. 10 when a School Resource Officer was told that a student had an explosive device, officials said.

The officer was able to detain the suspected student and found what was described as a large firework, police explained.

According to police, gossip about the incident spread quickly through the school, so out of an abundance of caution, the entire school was evacuated.

The high school was searched by the Camden County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit and Bomb
